Silver and Candle; Acrylic Standee
This page goes into the design process for this piece, as well the manufacturing process of this Acrylic Standee, as well as the pen holder with the similar design.
To the left is the final piece. The title of the piece has changed multiple times, I’ve nicknamed it Crystal Skies but originally it was literally just called Silver and Candle.
To the right is a video speedpaint of me drawing the scene. You can see how I started with the crystal concept being a lot more of a mirror and changed it to what it is now.
You will need to click the title to watch the video due to it using copyright music in the background that can only be played on Youtube!
The artwork was broken up into multiple pieces for it to be made into merchandise!
You may notice the bottom/base layer is different to what was drawn originally. This was an edit made at a later date and what was ultimately printed for the acrylic standee and the pen holder.
The characters were taken out individually! This was easy to do, as I had separated out the background and the characters through the use of layers and folders.
With all these pieces, I was able to create an example of how I wanted the pieces to be cut for the manufacturer, as seen below.
These images were created to help aid the manufacturer in where things should be positioned. The first image shows where the slots for the tabs should go, and where I would like the tabs to be on the characters.
The other image was to show roughly where everything should line up. For example, the character Candle should be placed where the ring of light from her fire is visible.
This is the full image that was used for the pen holder design, with the exception of the background being edited at a later point. The pen holder only needed this file to be printed so it was an easy thing to get manufactured.
The final acrylic pieces turned out a tad bit darker than I would have liked, but I think it’s still a working piece.
The acrylic standee was also fitted with a glitter holographic covering of stars to give it a bit of pizazz.
