BUT WAIT!

What is an object show?? What is the OSC?? Why are they objects but also animals?? Object Shows are often considered a genre, due to it’s origins considered to be the internet show Battle for Dream Island [BFDI] which is inspired off of the show Total Drama by Nickelodeon. It is a competition show, but rather than a cast of rowdy human teens, they’re all objects with limbs and faces!

BFDI was made in 2010 by the Huang Twins when they were still kids, an amazing feat for such a young age! It grew in popularity over the years to the 1 million subs they have today. It led to the creation of 5 seasons, of which they are currently revisiting season 2 and working on season 5 at the moment.

It’s sister show, Inanimate Insanity [II] was made by fans of BFDI around the same time in 2011. It is a competition show like BFDI, and a little more rough around the edges in the first season, but it has also grown in substantial size at 600,000 subs and 3 finished seasons, with a currently advertised 4th season around the corner!

This this, you may think that Object Shows are all competition based. And while that is a popular format for the hundreds of shows made in this style (most of them only having 1 episode with a promised 2nd one not uploaded in 10 years) there are some very popular ones that deviate from the norm! ONE (also known as hfjone) is a competition show that deviates from the norm by slowly turning into a Drama and Psychological Horror. The players of the competition are doing so against their will, dragged to a strange eternal day dimension of sorts with next to nothing on it. They are forced to compete with the game’s host’s directions and challenges, enduring broken legs and sometimes even death in all it’s gruesome realism. ONE is a very popular show, and considered a wonderfully crafted piece of media.

So an object show’s criteria seems to just be that they’re using objects with humanized traits in it’s most base form. Does this make The Little Toaster an object show? Well objectively, yes. But another key aspect of Object Shows is the fandom around it, often called the OSC. The OSC [Object Show Community] is the overall name for all fans of this style. This style can range from Film, Comics and even video games! As long as it generally falls under the two things; uses objects with humanized traits, and is considered a branch off of the OSC. The popular webcomic Objectified is considered under the umbrella of the OSC despite it’s use of object-animal hybrids and it’s extensive gore and horror. There really isn’t that much of a set definition for an object show or OSC-tangential project!

And now the final question, why the heck are they animals in this project?? Well, in long I like the idea of objects being a collection of animals that evolved and happen to look like objects. In short, it’s just fun for me to draw! While the typical stick limbs of Object Shows is nice, I don’t enjoy myself as much with these designs. I think there is beautiful work done with those designs and it totally fits the shows! But I have a lot more fun making weird little monsters.

Now with that all out of the way, let’s take a look at [BBTU]

The Story

Blessed Be The Universe [BBTU]

BBTU is my version of an object show. It is a mutli-part Animated youtube series inspired by BFDI and II, the two main ‘Object Shows’ of the fandom, as well as taking inspiration from Steven Universe, Dungeons and Dragons, and MLP Youtube Fight Animations such as Once Upon A Time In Canterlot (yes really!)

BBTU is considered 13+ due to it’s display of moderate blood, weapons such as knives and swords, and fighting/violence. Those who are sensitive to this content are suggested to decide if they deem this media suitable to watch for themselves or anyone under 13 who is in their care.

BBTU is a death arena style show. 12 contestants fight to the death for the amusement of their god who has promised the last one standing a wish for whatever they want. The contestants apply for a position every 100 years in the tournament
